Took me two cozy evenings with a cup of tea. When I flipped the switch on I actually gasped — it looks like something from an heirloom shop, and I made it.

Bought one for me and one for my mom. We built them together over video call — the best crafting night we have had in years. Hers is on her kitchen windowsill.

Two movie nights, one very proud me. It sits where everyone can see it and I take zero shame in pointing it out.

It lives on my desk and honestly makes late work nights better. Threading the beads was the most relaxed I have felt in months.

Why this one

The four things people ask about these kits

Every one of them comes straight out of the one-star reviews on the others.

do_not_disturb_on

It was never your hands. It was the needle.

Most women who stop beading think their hands did it. What actually stopped you was getting thread through an eye the size of a grain of rice. This kit has no needle in it — the wire is pre-cut and stiff enough to push through a bead on its own. Nothing to thread. Nothing to squint at.

straighten

Here it is next to a coffee mug.

"Very small. Not at all what's pictured" is the single most common complaint in this category. So the second photo on this page is the finished tree beside a standard coffee mug on a kitchen table — one shot, no crop, nothing cut off. Judge it yourself instead of taking our word.

checklist

Counted by hand, with spares

The other thing people say is "pieces were missing" and "the beads arrived broken". A kit you can't finish isn't a cheap kit, it's a ruined evening. Every box is counted before it's sealed and goes out with more beads than the tree needs.

schedule

Most people finish in three short evenings

Every unfinished kit in your closet started with somebody underselling the time. So here it is straight, and there is a full breakdown of the three evenings — open it below.

The three evenings, step by stepWhat each covers, and why stopping between them is safe
  1. 1
The branchesThe repetitive one, and the one most people end up enjoying. Beads go onto a pre-cut wire, you twist each branch closed, and you do it with the television on. Stop whenever you like — finished branches just sit in the tray until you come back to them.
  2. 2
Building the treeThe branches go onto the trunk from the bottom up, longest first, working round as you climb. This is the evening it stops looking like a pile of wire and starts looking like a tree. Half-built, it stands on its own, so you can leave it out on the table overnight.
  3. 3
Topper, base and lightsThe short one. The light string tucks up inside the branches, the base screws on underneath, and the angel goes on last. You switch it on at the end of this evening, and that is the part people tell us about.

If you work in short bursts because of your hands, that is exactly how this was meant to be built. Nothing dries, nothing sets, nothing is ruined by stopping.

You don’t need to be a crafterMost people who build one have never done beadwork before

There’s nothing to learn first. If you’ve never beaded in your life, you are the person this was made for. You pick up a bead, you slide it onto the wire, you do it again. That’s the whole skill.

The thing that stops people isn’t in the box. Threading a needle under a lamp is what ends most craft projects, and there is no needle here — the wire is pre-cut and stiff enough to push through a bead on its own.

The instructions assume you’ve never done this. Large print, with a drawing at every step, so you can work at your own pace and go back a step whenever you need to. If you get stuck, email us and a person walks you through it.

And it isn’t only for one kind of person. Grandchildren can do the branches — it’s repetitive and forgiving and there is nothing sharp in the box. Plenty of people build one on their own with the television on. Both are the right way to do it.

Buying it for someone else

Buying it for someone, or building it together

Halloween isn’t much of a gift-giving holiday, and we’re not going to pretend otherwise. Most people buy the second kit to build alongside somebody — a daughter, a friend, a grandchild who is old enough to be careful.

shield

If it turns up damaged, we sort it

The worst part of giving something handmade is it arriving broken. Add shipping protection at checkout and a lost or damaged parcel is replaced without you filing anything — you shouldn’t be chasing a courier on their behalf.

group

Two kits beats one

Two trays, two people, one table. This is the kind of thing that fills an October evening when it’s dark at five and nobody wants another film on.

sentiment_satisfied

They don’t need to be a crafter

There is no needle and nothing to thread, and the instructions are in large print with a drawing at every step. If she can pick up a bead she can build this.

Before you decide

Three reasons to believe this page

photo_camera

The photos are the product

The second one is the finished tree beside a coffee mug, uncropped, on a kitchen table. No render, no borrowed studio shot. If it looked smaller than you expected, you would already know.

checklist

Counted by hand, with spares

The two things people say most about these kits are that pieces were missing and beads arrived broken. Every box is counted before it’s sealed and goes out with more beads than the tree needs.

Straight answers

Questions people ask before they order

help Does it come with instructions?
Yes — printed, illustrated, and in large type you can read without reaching for your glasses. Every step has a drawing, and if you get stuck on one, email us and a person answers.
help Is it going to be tiny, like the other ones?
The second photo on this page shows it next to a coffee mug on a kitchen table, unedited and uncropped, so you can judge the size yourself rather than take our word for it.
help What if a piece is missing?
Every kit is counted by hand before it's sealed and ships with spare beads. If something is short anyway, email us and we send the part. You don't return anything and you don't pay postage.
help My eyes aren't what they were. Can I still do this?
There's no needle and no thread. The wire is stiff and pre-cut, and the instructions are printed large enough to read without reaching for your glasses. If you can pick up a bead, you can build this.
help I have arthritis. Is it fiddly?
It's bead-on-wire, done sitting down, and it breaks into short sections you can stop between. It is not fine needlework. That said, it does ask you to pick up small beads — if that's hard for you on a bad day, this will be too.
help Will it get here before Halloween?
We can’t promise Halloween delivery on orders placed now. Kits ship in 2–4 business days and usually arrive within 2–4 weeks.
help Is this a children’s craft?
Yes — it’s for pretty much all ages. There is no needle, nothing sharp, and the bead holes are big, so a child can genuinely help rather than sit and watch. The branches are the repetitive part and that is usually the bit they take over. Plenty of people also build one entirely on their own with the television on. It works either way.
help What if I start it and don't finish?
Fair question. It breaks into three evenings that stop cleanly, so putting it down for a week doesn't mean starting over.
help Who are you?
We’re Hearthside Heirloom, a small business built around one product rather than a thousand listings that appeared last month. We’re not a marketplace reseller. We care how every single order turns out, and when something goes wrong we would rather just fix it than argue about it. If you ever need to send something back, we’ll give you the return address then — we just don’t print it on the page.
